Founded in 1925, Rotherham United compete at AESSEAL New York Stadium, which has a capacity of just over 12,000. They moved in to their new ground in 2012 - via a brief spell at the Don Valley Stadium - having previously called Millmoor home since their foundation.

Paul Warne’s side were promoted to the Sky Bet Championship for the 2018/19 season, following a 2-1 extra-time Play-Off Final victory over Shrewsbury Town. The South Yorkshire club took a fourth-place finish in Sky Bet League One before entering the Play-Offs – 19 points behind champions, Wigan Athletic.

At the End of Season Awards Night, Will Vaulks scooped Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year. The defensive midfielder also achieved Community Player of the Year for his work with the club’s Community Sports Trust and beyond.

Right-back, Josh Emmanuel won Young Player of the Year and loanee, Richie Towell took Goal of the Season for his strike against Northampton Town.

Summer so far

Rotherham United have completed five pre-season friendlies this campaign – all away from home. The Millers defeated Parkgate 3-1 on Saturday 7th July, before travelling to Lindabrunn, Austria for a training camp and two fixtures.

Warne’s men took a 0-0 draw at Amstetten on Tuesday 10th July before getting back to winning ways, four days later with a 1-0 victory over Wiener Neustadt.

On Tuesday, 17th July, the South Yorkshire side extended their run of victories to three games with a 4-1 win at Stocksbridge Park Steels and 3-0 triumph against Sheffield FC.

After Wednesday's match, our hosts will play one final friendly fixture against Mansfield Town at Field Mill, before their competitive season begins on Saturday, 4th August away to Brentford.

Last time out

City hosted Rotherham United at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 18th February 2017 and came away 5-0 victors. Goals from Kadeem Harris and Junior Hoilett put the Bluebirds 2-0 up at half-time, before a Craig Noone volley and Kenneth Zohore brace completed the rout.

Harris broke the deadlock with a curling effort after 11 minutes. The winger gathered possession inside the area, took a touch and curled the ball into the bottom-right corner.

As half-time loomed, Hoilett then doubled City's lead. The Canadian international intercepted a poor back-pass before slotting past the onrushing Richard O'Donnell.

After the interval, it took just four minutes for Noone to add a third. Harris’ floated cross found winger who improvised a superb scissor kick at the far post to convert.

Zohore soon added an excellent brace to complete the scoring - driving the ball home from a tight angle, before rounding things off with an exquisite lobbed effort.
