Lambert began his footballing career at hometown team Liverpool, playing in their Academy up to the age of fifteen.
After a number of seasons in the lower leagues, Rickie then burst onto the scene at Bristol Rovers, under Paul Trollope and Lennie Lawrence. There, he scored a total of fifty-nine goals, finishing joint-top scorer of League One in 2008-09.
A move to Southampton followed, where Lambert’s goals fired the Saints to consecutive promotions in 2010/11 and 2011/12, reaching the Premier League. Lambert earned a number of personal accolades along the way as he wrote his name into Southampton folklore at St Mary's.
Rickie netted a further fifteen goals in his first top-flight season and, after thirteen strikes in the following campaign, Lambert re-joined his boyhood club Liverpool in 2014, scoring three times for the Reds. After a season at West Bromwich Albion, Rickie signed for Cardiff on deadline day in 2016.
Lambert was called up to the England squad in 2013, scoring on his début with his first touch of the ball, before also playing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
