Date of birth
A Bluebirds veteran with five seasons experience, Matt is only surpassed by Peter Whittingham and Aron Gunnarsson as the Club’s longest-serving player.
Having started his career with Arsenal and captained the Gunners’ reserves, Matt made one senior appearance prior to successful loan spells at Bournemouth and Colchester United. These preceded a permanent switch to Queen’s Park Rangers in January 2008, for whom the Barnet-born man made 125 League and Cup appearances.
A loan move to Reading came in February 2012, before the defender – comfortable at centre-half or full-back – signed for Cardiff City the following August. Five goals and a third successive promotion to the Barclays Premier League made for an excellent début season in the capital for Matt.
A loan spell at Watford in 2015 would later increase his personal promotion tally to four, before he returned to South Wales and was voted as the Club's 2015/16 'Player of the Season'.
