RC: PERFECT FOR BODY AND MIND

Club News

from Dubai about the lads’ week of warm-weather training in the United Arab Emirates.cardiffcityfc.co.uk has spoken exclusively to Richard CollingeCardiff City’s Head of Performance

The man entrusted with overseeing our first-team squad’s medical, physiotherapy and sport science was enthused by the team’s application and response this week - feeling their time spent in the Middle East could play a key part in what they want to accomplish this season.

“We’re training every day out here as if it were a normal week back home,” said Richard. “Morning sessions are on the training pitches here at Al Wasl Sport Club and then afternoon sessions are either at the gym or in the pool.

for their generosity and assistance in helping us achieve what we want to.Azura Travel Company and the Sporting Director, their Al Wasl“There is an excellent and palpable work ethic out here to what we’re doing and the benefits are great. Malky and I would particularly like to thank

“It’s proving to be an excellent week for team bonding too, with the lads allowed to enjoy some downtime after they’ve worked in the day. We’ve been through a very tough Christmas and New Year schedule, so this is the perfect opportunity for them to re-energise both physically and mentally. Weather-wise it’s as we need – warm but without any real humidity. It’s perfect for us.”

And Richard also took time to explain the key differences between what’s being done at this training camp in comparison to that which took place during pre-season in Geneva.

“This is a very different training camp to what we experience in the summer during pre-season,” he continued. “When we went away to Switzerland in July for example it was about ramping up the lads’ fitness after the summer break and getting them ready ahead of the new campaign.

“Warm-weather training during the winter season is about maintaining fitness levels in a different environment, allowing players to recharge their batteries away from the norm. It’s about helping the players as best we can to make sure that they hit the ground running going into the remaining eighteen games of the campaign.”

Of further significant interest to City fans is the news concerning three players in particular, Rich adding:“Fraizer is with us now for a few days and it’s an ideal time for him to bond with the squad and get to know them.

“In addition we’re doing work with Mark Hudson to help his recovery from the knock he picked up against Blackpool, while Nicky Maynard is also with us doing some work as he continues to recover from his cruciate ligament reconstruction. The trip is of real worth to those three in particular, as well as the other lads who are shaking off any bumps or bruises that they’d picked up in recent weeks.”
