THE OPPOSITION

The Owls have faltered slightly of late and have failed to record a win in their last four League matches. A 4-1 defeat to Bristol City has been followed by three consecutive draws to Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Derby County.

Former Watford man Fernando Forestieri leads the goal-scoring charts for Carlos Carvalhal’s men, with fifteen League goals to date, while Gary Hooper has added a further eleven strikes. In midfield, Ross Wallace and Barry Bannan have impressed this term.

If the Bluebirds are to win on the weekend, they will need to find a way past Keiren Westwood, whose seventeen clean sheets this season put him second only to Middlesbrough’s Dimitrios Konstantopoulos in the division.

CLUB CONNECTIONS

Sheffield Wednesday are skippered by former Bluebird, Glenn Loovens. The Dutchman, who has two international caps to his name, made over one hundred appearances for City between 2006 and 2009, scoring three goals.

Former City midfielder Stephen McPhail moved directly from the Bluebirds to the Owls in 2013. He had previously played for City over two hundred times, becoming a linchpin in midfield for the Bluebirds and captaining the Club in the 2008 FA Cup Final at Wembley.

In the dugout, both the Bluebirds and Sheffield Wednesday have been managed by Dave Jones. Jones brought both Loovens and McPhail to the Club, as he led City to their first FA Cup Final since 1927. He went on to spend time at Hillsborough between March 2012 and December 2013.
