REPORT | WIGAN ATHLETIC 0-0 CARDIFF CITY

Cardiff City battled to a goalless draw away to Wigan Athletic, as Mark Harris and Ibrahim Meite made their full City debuts at the DW Stadium.

Mark Harris was named in Neil Warnock’s line-up in Lancashire, with five changes from the Bluebirds’ Easter Monday win over Nottingham Forest.

Wigan began on the front foot in front of their home fans as they battled to preserve some hope of Sky Bet Championship survival.

City ‘keeper Ben Amos dealt well with everything that was thrown at him in the first half, as the Latics racked up a number of corners.

Craig Morgan headed wide from one such corner in a first half devoid of clear goal-scoring opportunities. That was until Craig Noone broke through on the stroke of half-time, before lashing an effort just wide of Matt Gilks’ goal.

In the second-half, the game developed into a more open affair as Wigan turned to Nick Powell and Ryan Colclough in a bid to secure a much-needed victory.

Bruno Manga and Aron Gunnarsson seemed to be getting in the way of every Latics’ shot though, as City’s last-ditch defending kept them at bay on several occasions.

Gunnarsson and Manga then combined at the other end of the pitch as the Iceland skipper glanced a header towards goal, which his teammate almost connected with at the far post.

The 729-strong travelling contingent of Bluebirds also had the chance to see young striker Ibrahim Meite introduced to the action late on. But they were to travel back to South Wales with just a point, as City secured an away draw that all but relegated Wigan Athletic to the third tier.
