MALKY: WE WEREN'T CLINICAL ENOUGH
spoke frankly following his side’s 2-1 defeat at home to Peterborough on Saturday afternoon.Malky Mackay
“I know how Peterborough can play so there was every chance that we could be beaten here today; just like there was every chance we could have won here today,” said the Gaffer. “They came here and played well. We started slowly and they started well. It took us twenty-five minutes to take control of the game. Over the piece we were not clinical enough to merit the win here today and that’s really what counts.
“I suppose things go for you and things can go against you. It is something that we will look at on Tuesday, how lax we were on our counter attack and how we let them counter on our counter attack. It gave us an uphill battle, which we nearly climbed. Our crowd were willing us on until the end. I think there was twenty-six thousand there today. On another day we could have scored six or seven.
“This was going to happen at some point. It shows the league that we are in, everyone can beat everyone and that has never been in doubt that it could happen. Today’s results around the division show that again. Overall I am encouraged by the group of players that we have got and the performances as a whole they have put in. There have been few and far between like that today.
“We had twenty attempts on goal, in the second half we were doing everything but scoring. That is the difference in games. At Blackburn we were clinical, we certainly can play much better that is without doubt. That is something that we will obviously strive for and will look at during the week. If we had not created chances here today I would be sitting here a lot more worried.”
