HEIDAR HIGH ON CITY WIN

Heidar Helguson’s pre-international break double at Portman Road was very much enjoyed

Heidar Helguson’s pre-international break double at Portman Road was very much enjoyed by the two hundred and sixty hardy travelling City fans on Saturday – the brace also much welcomed by the Icelander himself in his post-match assessment.

“It’s about time I think,” he laughed. “I possibly haven't scored as many goals as I would like so far, but it’s really good to score two goals and to help my team win.”

Most would agree that it wasn’t a vintage Cardiff City run out, particularly in the first half. But Heidar epitomised the endeavour from the Bluebirds this year, grinding out a win when luck seemed against us and a little form was missing.

“Overall we really showed the quality we have in the squad,” he admitted. “We have a lot of character and spirit and we were all disappointed after the first half team performance. Whether the Ipswich goal was handball or not we knew we had to step things up. These things happen; it's what you get in away games sometimes. Home teams will have periods where they dominate and you have to dig in, work hard and shut up shop.We have players who can open up opposing teams and will always get chances. We work hard as a team and from this work we are going to get chances.

“This was a great win for us.We’re top of table for two weeks as we go into international break and that's a good feeling. We have earned three wins on spin now - and six wins out of seven games played, while we all know that we really should have won at Palace as well.

“It’s really good that we are going to have a little mini break over the next two weeks and then get back to it. I hope there are more goals to come from myself. I’ll certainly be working for that.”
