U18s DRAW WITH ADDICKS

Club News

Cardiff City’s U18 side earned their first away point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic at Sparrows Lane.

The home side opened the game the stronger team and took the lead on nineteen minutes, Curtis Watkins with an unfortunate slip for City leaving striker Tom Derry with a clear sight of goal and for the second season running the forward scored against a Cardiff City under 18 side.

It took the away side just two minutes of the second half to grab an equaliser though. A quickly taken free kick resulted in the ball falling to Jake Watkins within the Addicks penalty area and a lofted effort from Watkins flew into the back of the net.

Organised defending from City’s Academy helped to keep the home side at bay for the final half hour and they fully deserved their draw. The home team had one last chance to win the game in the final few minutes with goal-scorer Derry shooting into the side-netting.
