City's Gunnarsson faces decider in Zagreb

CITY’s Aron Gunnarsson will walk out as Captain of Iceland tonight as they look to make history and qualify for their first ever World Cup and major finals.

The City midfielder played the full 90 minutes of their World Cup qualification first-leg play-off on Friday night, helping to guide Lars Lagerback's side to a 0-0 draw with Croatia; leaving the tie hanging in the balance in Zagreb.

It was a valuable first-leg result in the end for the home side in Reykjavik, having played much of the second half with ten men following the dismissal of midfielder Olafur Ingi Skulason just five minutes into the second-half.

Croatia enjoyed the majority of possession, but a resolute Iceland showed the determination that got them to the play-offs once again, claiming a valuable 0-0 draw and turning the second leg match in Zagreb tonight into a ‘winner takes all’ affair.

The play-off second-leg clash gets underway at 7.15pm (GMT) tonigh, we all wish Gunnar the best of luck in Zagreb.
