City defender returned from long-term injury this week

Long term absentee Matt Connolly stepped out on the Cardiff City Stadium turf for the first time earlier this week in City DVP’s end of season clash with Bristol City.

The Bluebirds defender – who’s made 40 senior appearances with five goals to date – last featured in City’s 3-2 League Cup defeat at West Ham last September. Having suffered with a hip complaint during the latter part of the autumn, Matt opted for an operation prior to Christmas to put things right.

“I had a niggling, wear and tear hip problem,” the defender said. “The surgeon shaved off a bit of bone, reattached bits and pieces. Now I am back in full training and it was great being able to play in the Development team this week.

“Next season is huge for me and I am intent on working over the summer and making sure I am fitter than I have ever been going into pre-season.”
