MUTCH: LET'S BUILD ON SAINTS WIN

City midfielder focused on Stoke fixture

Midfielder Jordon Mutch has called on his side to build on last weekend’s match winning display against Southampton to ensure a similar result against Stoke City this Saturday.

The Bluebirds’ first win at Southampton in over 22 years and second away league victory of the campaign secured three precious points to bring them back into the thick of the scrap for Barclays Premier League survival.

And now with the Potters up next at Cardiff City Stadium, City’s seven goal midfielder said of the challenge ahead: “We proved a few people wrong on Saturday. The win put pressure on the two in front of us. We’ve just got to push on now and do the same again this weekend.

“We’ve got a good group and we stick together. Obliviously the result against Palace was disappointing but we bounced back and got a fantastic win. Now we look to push on against Stoke. We’ve been determined all season, sometimes it hasn’t worked for us, but last week we pulled together and it paid off.

“It’s the same theory as every other game going into Saturday. We need to do our job and what is expected of us. We’ll have the fans behind us and hopefully that can help us bring another three points.”

City face Stoke at the weekend before travelling to the north east for back-to-back away fixtures with Sunderland and Newcastle. They end the season in South Wales with a mouthwatering clash against title challenging Chelsea.

And with the end of the season now less than one month away, 22-year old Jordon is remaining focused on the task in hand, saying: “We need to focus on ourselves. We’re always looking to improve and hopefully we can kick on from that result against Southampton. We’ve always believed that we can stay up as a group.

“This week we regroup and look at the next game and hopefully get the three points we need from it. All the boys stick together and we just do what we need to do on the pitch. That focus is key.”
