Defender latest graduate from City's Academy

Cardiff City Football Club are pleased to announce that young defender Thomas James has put pen to paper on his first professional contract, securing his long-term future with the Bluebirds.

Tom first joined the club at under-9 level and has progressed significantly this season, as a key part firstly in Kevin Nicholson’s under-18 side. He soon made the step up to under-21 football in style with a fantastic performance against Charlton Athletic in February, with the young centre half an ever-present in Kevin Cooper’s Development squad ever since his full debut.

He follows in the footsteps of fellow defenders Declan John, Deji Oshilaja, Ben Nugent, Darcy Blake, Chris Gunter and Adam Matthews in progressing through the club’s esteemed Academy to sign professional terms with the Bluebirds in recent years.

Speaking of his delight in signing his first professional contract, James said: “I’m delighted to commit my future to the club, and look forward to continuing my progression here for many years to come.”
