Under-21s defeated in first match of 2014-15

Cardiff City’s Development squad were defeated 4-1 by Bosnian sister club FK Sarajevo despite a spirited performance against the Bluebirds’ sister club.

The first ever match between the two clubs drew a crowd of 5,000 to Sarajevo’s Olympic Stadium as our closely affiliated opponents prepared for their upcoming Europa League qualification tie against FK Haugesund next week.

Almost three weeks ahead of City’s youngsters in their pre-season preparations who were playing their first match of 2014-15, Sarajevo took the lead just after the half hour mark through Bojan Puzigaća who turned the ball home at the far post from a corner, a lead they saw into the half-time interval.

Lead Development Coach Nilton Terroso’s was taking his first match in charge of City’s Under-21s as the Bluebirds proved more than a match for their opponents in the first period despite their much advanced pre-season preparations.

Fitness levels became evident in the second period however as the Bosnian club soon doubled their lead in the second-half. Grabbing a second of the game Puzigaća slotted home from the spot, initially awarded for handball by City defender Josh Yorwerth. Samir Radovac soon made it three as he slotted home a 25-yard effort on the hour mark.

With fitness proving key, Sarajevo made it four eight minutes later through Nemanja Bilbija before a superb late strike from Danny Johnson got the Bluebirds on the scoresheet late on.
