City stars in International action this week

EIGHT City players will be in action for their countries during international duty this week, the latest being Danny Gabbidon who has been called-up for Wales by boss Chris Coleman.

The newly re-signed City centre-back replaces Wolves' Samuel Ricketts in the squad to face Andorra, joining City team-mate Declan John in Chris Coleman's Wales selection. Wales travel to face off against Andorra on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) before the two City stars return to the Welsh Capital on Wednesday.

Midfielders Filip Kiss, Aron Gunnarsson, Anthony Pilkington and Mats Møller Dæhli have been given the opportunity of representing Slovakia, Iceland, Republic of Ireland and Norway respectively while there’s also call-ups for David Marshall with Scotland and new signing Bruno Ecuele Manga for Gabon.

Mats Møller Dæhli is unlikely to be risked in Wednesday's European Championship Qualification: Group H match vs Italy after the young midfielder was forced to come off in Norway's 1-0 loss to England at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Fellow midfielder Aron Gunnarsson has been called-up to lead Iceland in their Group A match vs Turkey on Tuesday, 9th September. The swashbuckling midfield man is yet to score for his country in 44 appearances - with the match against Turkey a good opportunity for 'Gunnar' to grab his first international goal.

Before Cardiff fans can see their new central defensive signing in action, Bruno Ecuele Manga will represent Gabon in their African Cup of Nations qualification clashes with Angola on Friday, 5th September and Lesotho on Wednesday, 10th September.

As confirmed early this week, goalkeeper David Marshall has been called-up to the Scotland squad for their European Championship qualifier against Germany. He will face competition for the number 1 jersey from returning Celtic keeper Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor.

All players will return from international duty ahead of City’s home match against Norwich City on Saturday, 13th September.

We wish all our players the best of luck while away on international duty. We shall be keeping a close eye on their progress via our official Facebook and Twitter channels.
