MARSHALL: POSITIVE SIGNS ARE THERE

Skipper reflects on a unified Group spirit at CCS

Cardiff City Captain, David Marshall, spoke exclusively to Cardiff City Player on Tuesday evening following the Bluebirds’ spirited 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

The Skipper – who returned to the side from injury in City’s previous fixture against Brighton – reflected on the impact that a more settled Group has had on team performances. Unbeaten in three, the Bluebirds now travel for back-to-back fixtures at Huddersfield and Wigan – each of whom they’ve beaten this season.

“We’re disappointed not to have taken the three points tonight as I think it’s the best we’ve played for a few weeks,” said David.

“Having scored so late in the game we thought we were going to see it out; obviously they scored in the final minute though and it was even more disappointing that it was their only real chance of the game.

“There were definitely positives to take from the match though and I think we can go into our next couple of games against [Huddersfield and Wigan] with those.”

Commenting specifically on a re-invigorated Group mentality, David was frank in his assessment as to how that off-field bond can generate on-field success.

He continued: “I’ve been out for a while but have been back in for the last couple of games. I think defensively we’ve been quite good in those and have settled with the new boys who have come in.

“Those sorts of things [gelling as a squad] take time, but I think we’re getting there. The signs are there – hopefully we can pick up a couple of wins now and really push on.

“We go to Huddersfield on Saturday - looking for a win to follow up three draws on the bounce. We know that if we play the way we did against Blackburn [long term] then we’re going to get ourselves up the table fairly quickly.”
