PELTS: WE'RE BUILDING SOMETHING HERE

Bluebirds defender cites a growing group ethos after Saturday's point

Cardiff City defender Lee Peltier praised a strong defensive effort from the Bluebirds following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday.

“I thought we were very well-worth the point, if not all three,” Lee said after the game.

“I thought it was a bit of a soft penalty at the time - and having looked back on it now I don’t think it was a penalty at all - but we needed to get something out of the game. I think we’re building again on the performance against Derby last week, which wasn’t a bad display. I thought we brought that level of play to Hillsborough.

“To a man everybody battled; we all knew what we were doing, and it was a good point.”

The Wednesday draw saw Peltier play alongside Bruno Ecuele Manga in the Bluebirds’ back four for the first time, while Eoin Doyle and Conor McAleny both made their debuts for the Club.

“I thought the new boys came in and did really well,” Lee continued. “Of course, they’d only been with us for a couple of days beforehand, but they both produced good performances.

"Conor is only a young lad, and he’s come in and shown what he’s got. I don’t think the pitch suited him much today, but I’m sure you’ll see a different side to him once we’re on a nice pitch. He’s got really good feet.

"Doyley looks like he’s going to score; he’s on the defenders’ shoulder all the time, and he chases lost causes, so I think they’re two great signings for us, and I look forward to playing alongside them in the future.

“I thought the whole back four were solid, and we didn’t give them much. We did what we had to do, and it was just about always getting that first contact on the ball before our markers, and I don’t think they had too much of a sniff.”

Peltier was replaced by Matthew Connolly with just over twenty minutes to go, but the former Huddersfield man explained that the switch was only a precautionary measure.

“My subsititution was as a precaution,” he said. “I had a bit of a tight hip, but it should be fine. It was to be cautious, especially with all the games coming up. I didn’t want to make it worse, and  not give myself a chance for Tuesday.

“This league is crazy, everyone knows that. I think everyone checks over their shoulders, even looking up as high as the top six. We definitely need to be picking up points this month. We got one at Hillsborough, which is a start, and we’re looking to take all three points at home to Brighton on Tuesday.”
