FA YOUTH CUP: BLUEBIRDS AIMING FOR FIFTH ROUND SPOT

Club News

Cardiff City Football Club’s U18 side face a tough trip to Burnley in the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round on Tuesday, 20th January at Turf Moor (7pm kick-off).

The young Bluebirds defeated Charlton Athletic in a hard-fought match at the Valley in Round Three with Jamie Veale’s 25-yard wonder strike enough to send Matthew Bloxham and Jarred Harvey’s side through.

And the Academy U18 coaches spoke highly of their opponents ahead of the Fourth Round tie in Lancashire.

“We’ve done our research on Burnley, and are expecting a tough challenge against a well coached side. We’ve analysed and discussed how we believe they will attempt to hurt us and looked at ways to counteract this,” said Bloxham.

“It’s a great experience for our players to get the opportunity of playing at a great venue like Turf Moor. We’re expecting a top quality-playing surface, which will allow us to play our usual passing game while their families and friends watch on. I’m sure our players will go out on Tuesday evening and give a good account of the Cardiff City Academy philosophy.

“As a collective we feel well prepared, and hopefully it will be enough to see us through to the Fifth Round.”

Harvey added: “Preparation leading up to the game has been first class. The whole squad have been exceptional during the build up to Tuesday, with a lot of key performers showing great form in training and we are confident they can take that into tomorrow night and show what they can do at a Premier League venue.

“When you have creative players like we have in our team, there is no better occasion for a young team to showcase its talent than on a Premier League ground in the FA Youth Cup.”

The winners of Tuesday’s Cup-tie will travel to Nottingham Forest in the Fifth Round.

Highlights will be available from this clash on Bluebirds Player in the subsequent days, while full match updates will come via the Official Cardiff City FC Academy Twitter throughout the Cup-tie.
