RALLS: TIME TO KICK ON AFTER CUP WIN

Midfielder looking for a solid January after FA Cup progression

Cardiff City’s Joe Ralls cited Friday’s morale-boosting victory over Colchester United as a catalyst for momentum in 2015.

The 21 year-old Academy Graduate opened the scoring in the Bluebirds’ third round win, Kadeem Harris and Kenwyne Jones joining him on the score-sheet with second half strikes.

“We’re happy to get through to the next round,” said Joe. “It was good for a few of the boys to get a run out and the most important thing of course was that we won. Hopefully this can be the start of a run of wins in the league now as well, starting next Saturday against Fulham.

“Obviously we were disappointed with our results in December. We need to do better and as a team we’ve talked about it. Friday was about going out and trying to get the win to get us back on track, which we did. I think we could have played better, but we’ve got the win, and that’s what we want to try and do more of in the league.

And as for his latest goal – his third of the season after fine efforts against Norwich City and Port Vale – the talented midfielder was reassuringly defiant as to how he viewed it, commenting:“It took a deflection, but it’s my goal!

“It was going on target, so I’ll take it. It was good for me to get a goal, and it kicked us on to get two good goals after that. We’re happy with that side of things. It’s nice to score again – recently I’ve been coming off the bench, so it was nice to get a start, and get ninety minutes under my belt.

"It was a good acrobatic goal for Kadeem too. He’s been keen to impress and now he’s being given his chance, so I’m pleased for him.

“The goal was good for me personally, but all of the lads needed the ninety minutes today. We got that, and we got the win, so it’s good to be in the hat for the next round. Another home tie would be nice, but we’d like to go as far as we can.

“We’ve got a few days until Fulham now, so we have plenty of time to prepare for that one. We’ll make sure we’re ready for the game, and it’s important we put in a good performance and get the win that will kick us up the table.”
