ABBRUZZESE & BIRD SIGN PRO CONTRACTS

At half time of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match against MK Dons, we were delighted to welcome Cardiff City second year apprentices Rhys Abbruzzese and Jamie Bird to the pitch, as they signed their first professional contracts with the Club.

The two Welsh youth internationals have played a key part in the Bluebirds’ U18s squad, whilst also progressing to consistently make an impact at U21 level.

We’d like to congratulate both Rhys and Jamie for extending their time with City after such an impressive breakthrough year.

CCS HOSTS FIRST EVER SUMO BOUT

That wasn’t the only event to take place during the interval, as those who stayed in the seats during half time also witnessed Cardiff City Stadium’s first ever Sumo wrestling bout!

The traditional dohyō was set up in front of the Grandstand ready for Season Ticket Holders Thomas Fish and Ryan March to go toe-to-toe in the ring. While Thomas and Ryan are both good mates, the well-padded Sumo wrestling outfits were a good excuse to put friendship to one side and try to get the upper hand.

The rules were simple – simply push your opponent out of the dohyō, or get your opponent on the floor to win a round.

The rainy conditions made for a slippery surface, with Ryan in the blue trim gaining the upper hand and building a 3-0 lead. After doing some soul searching, Thomas did respond, finding the strength to shove Ryan out of the dohyō to get himself on the scoresheet. However, Ryan dominated the majority of the ten rounds, eventually winning 8-2 to become CCS' first ever Sumo champion!
