2025/26 Vertu Trophy | Tournament Information

City face off against Exeter City, Newport County & Arsenal U21s in the Group Stage of this season's Vertu Trophy.

16/09/25 - Exeter City (A), 7pm KO.
07/10/25 - Newport County (H), 7:45pm KO.
11/11/25 - Arsenal U21 (H), 7:45pm KO.

The trophy competition of the EFL has made some changes since we were last involved in 2002/03. Here is some information to be aware of before we get started.

PENALTIES IN THE GROUP STAGE

It's a new one for us, but one to be ready for in-case of a draw.

If any game in the group stage is level, we go to penalty kicks. The winner of these will earn two points from the game. The defeated will earn a point.

THE KNOCKOUT ROUNDS

The top two placed teams in each group will progress into the knockout stage. The winners of the group will play at home in the first knockout round (round of 32).

The round of 32, round of 16 and quarter finals are regionalised into the southern and northern sections, as with the group stages.

The teams outside of City's group in the southern section are: AFC Wimbledon, Aston Villa U21, Barnet, Brighton & Hove Albion U21, Bristol Rovers, Bromley, Cambridge United, Chelsea U21, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Crawley Town, Crystal Palace U21, Fulham U21, Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Luton Town, MK Dons, Northampton Town, Peterborough United, Plymouth Argyle, Reading, Shrewsbury Town, Stevenage, Swindon Town, Tottenham Hotspur U21, Walsall, West Ham United U21, Wycombe Wanderers.

Matches level after ninety minutes in the knockout rounds will be determined by penalty kicks up to the Semi-Final stage.

A period of 30 minutes of extra time will be played in the Final should the match be level after ninety minutes. If still level at the end of extra time, the winners shall be determined by penalty kicks.

The final of the 2025/26 Vertu Trophy will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, April 12th, 2026.
