Cardiff City goalkeeper Matt Turner spoke to the press after Cardiff City’s 3-1 win over Arsenal U21 side in the Vertu Trophy.
“The performance all-around was really good,” Matt began. “Me myself, I probably didn’t know as many of the boys, but the lads who come in play week in and week out for the U21s, and there’s a good click and a good group there.
“We only had a day or two to work with each other ahead of this game, but the performance was really good. It was pleasing to see how we played tonight and a great win which gets us into the next round.”
Turner himself is only 23 but was the oldest City player on the pitch tonight. Despite that, the keeper enjoyed that role and praised the Academy, for whom he played many games for.
“It’s strange,” Matt explained. “Even in our dressing room now, we’ve got such a young squad. There’s a lot of boys like Ronan who I know, but being out there and being the oldest player on the pitch was a weird feeling!
“The academy itself has been great. It's produced a lot of players. The likes of the Colwills are in the first team now along with Ronan and Dyl and many others. The Academy is doing a great job, and you can see tonight there's so many young prospects coming through. It's going to be a bright future.
“Pursey is great. He’s got so much experience and so many games under his belt as a player. He can help the boys out so much and teach them little bits here and there, and you can see just how good a job he’s doing.”
The goalkeeper ended by talking about his new deal with the club, which he signed a few days ago, and he’s looking forward to many more years at Cardiff City Stadium.
“I’m delighted to be able to sign a new deal with the club,” Matt concluded. “I love being here. I’m glad it’s all sorted and now I can concentrate on the football now.”
