Nathan Trott spoke to Cardiff City TV after producing a crucial late save which denied Birmingham City an equaliser and earned him a first clean sheet of the 2026/27 season.
"Those games can be more difficult than the ones where you have loads of saves to make." Nathan began. "It's just important for me to be there in those moments that can really win the team points. I'm happy to be there for that vital moment in the game.
"I think before the season even started, we knew we could play against teams like this. I think we showed it a bit last season in the Cup, where we could come up against teams at this level, and I think we can do even better.
"Obviously going to Middlesbrough away was a big point. Going 2-0 up, of course you’d want to win, but they’re a really good team that are probably looking to get promoted, and we went toe-to-toe with them.
"And obviously Birmingham as well, we’ve done the same and we could have scored even more. So I think this group has so much more to offer; we’ve got the players to do it, obviously we’ve got Brian and the coaching staff. We’ve got everything to succeed."
Unnerved by the stormy weather swirling around CCS all afternoon, Nathan was his usual calm, composed self in possession, and discussed the importance of his role on the ball.
"It's how I've always been since I start playing football! I'm quite a chilled individual anyway, and I think I can use that to my strength. With the way we play, if I start panicking then the game looks a bit different.
"He [Brian] wants me to be really advanced. Sweeping in behind, playing out from the back, if the centre backs might need me in between them just to give them more space, and really just to support the team in that part of the game. It's up to me to position myself right and support the team as much as I can.
"That's what Brian wants from me. I think I can do it better, I think he wants me to do better! For me, it's just about improving and helping the team - whether it's playing out from the back, getting the ball in behind, and obviously making the saves."
