Following Saturday’s away defeat at Ewood Park, Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press to discuss the result.
Despite attempts to get a result in Lancashire after conceding two first-half goals, City fell just short of finding an equaliser against Rovers, with Callum Robinson netting his first of the season just after the interval.
“We’re very disappointed with that performance,” began Brian. “We didn’t feel as if it was good enough to give ourselves the chance to win the game.
“We showed signs in the second half to be the team we want to be. When you play like we did in the first half, you give yourself an uphill struggle.
“We showed signs of what we’re capable of in the second half, that only heightens the sense of disappointment in terms of how we performed in the first half.
"We created good chances in the second half and could’ve or should’ve probably scored a second, but you know we can’t hide or shy away from the fact that we weren’t good enough in the first half.
“We can have no excuses. We knew how tough the challenge was going to be today, and we gave the ball away in really dangerous areas by our standards and weren’t good enough in possession.
“We didn’t push forward and that cost us.”
Despite defeat on the road, Tuesday night affords the Bluebirds an opportunity to bounce back at CCS against Watford, as Brian explained:
“We’re going back to our stadium so we’re looking forward to that,” he continued. “We’ve played really well there this season, and we’ll quickly overcome this setback and bounce back tomorrow and Monday, trying to win it on Tuesday.
“Our focus is always on ourselves, and it’ll be on trying to play a lot better than today and making more chances to try and win the game.”
