Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press for the first time since being appointed as the Bluebirds’ First Team Head Coach.
Having signed a three-year deal at the Club, the City boss began by expressing his excitement.
“What attracted me was the potential of the Club, the playing staff that is here and the potential to add to that, as well as where the Club is at; it's similar to where I feel I’m at," Brian began.
"From here, I think there’s a real opportunity to grow the Club with what we’ve got and do something really special.
"My perception is that we are the only club from Wales in League One, but we are also the biggest club in this country. The potential was the biggest thing that attracted me to this in the first place.
"You want to see there is actual substance to that potential. The playing staff, I see an opportunity to improve them individually and collectively. That’s the whole point of why I’m here, to unlock that potential.
“I think the vision for the Club is clear. I’ve said previously, my excitement at being here is really genuine and I understand the challenges that we’re going to face, but there’s a real sense of excitement around the potential that lies within the Club."

Having previously had coaching experience at Rochdale, Manchester City and Leicester City, Brian's journey and influences have resulted in a clear idea of how he wants his side to play.
He continued: “I would say I love having possession of the ball, but we also want to be as aggressive as possible and create an excitement for the supporters so that they’re genuinely looking forward to coming to the stadium every game day.
"My journey has evolved to having a real understanding of how to be the most effective and efficient team that I believe the supporters want to see, and that takes time and an understanding of how to evolve as a coach to where I am today.
“The whole idea is for the players to see this as an opportunity. Outside of the training pitch, I think everyone will have a perception that we will be favourites for the league and we expect to be right at the top of the league and trying to win it, but for the players, they will get real substance from what we do on the training pitch.
"Building an idea and a way of playing means that whenever there are moments of doubt and it gets difficult, the idea of the way we want to play is something they can fall back on.
"I believe that the mindset is developed on the training pitch. The single most important thing that I took from working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City was that the training programme was different to anything I had seen in my life.
"It makes sense of the way you play, it is referenced in everything you do during the week, then you become very comfortable bringing it into your performance on the weekend. We have a clear reference of who we are and that’s the way the training programme is."

The new City boss will be joined at the Club by Lee Riley, who fills the role of Assistant Head Coach. Brian concluded by discussing what Riley will bring to the Bluebirds.
“Essentially, I believe that we have some of the best young talent anywhere in the country. Then, to bring that to the maximum potential, you have to have the best coaches.
"I had a really open mind when I went to Manchester City that I was going to be working with the best manager in the world, and work with some of the best staff in the world. The same at Leicester City, but what I saw beneath that was in comparison to Lee, I’ve never met a coach who was more adept at developing talent and having a tactical awareness of what were the most important things in league games and that would allow us to be a winning team.
"I think when there’s such a focus on developing young talent and having an environment of improvement, it’s important not to distract from the fact that we want to win. This wants to be a winning club that is going to be successful this season.
"There’s no going away from that and Lee provides all the qualities that I believe will be instrumental in allowing that to come to fruition on a game day."
