Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the media after City’s 2-1 win against Peterborough United on the opening day of the season.
“I'm really pleased with the result, obviously.” Brian began. “The opening games can become quite difficult in the second half because the fitness of the players can be tested based on what way the game goes, but I thought we were dominant throughout. To see the players play with the style and personality they did throughout was very pleasing for me.

“A lot of things we worked on were evident; there are obviously things that we can improve on based on how long we work together and the more repetition we get. I thought in the first half in particular we arrived at Peterborough’s defensive line pretty quickly and effectively, and we didn’t waste a lot of possession.”
“The stadium seemed electric to me, on the sideline.” Brian added. It was a brilliant experience. We felt as if we should have been in front at half time. To see the reaction of the players in the stadium in the second half helped; it was really beneficial for me to see that. To see us go behind and respond in the manner we did gives us a lot of things that we can help the players with.”

Brian spoke highly of today’s skipper Rubin Colwill, who scored a wonderful free-kick shortly after half-time.
"Since the first day we came in, we’ve been hugely impressed by his potential and the way he’s trained every single day. Naturally, we want to push him to become the player he wants. But in terms of his attitude and skill level in training, it's of the highest standard. So, we are looking to just push him and to make him fulfil his potential."
Today’s City squad also saw seven Academy graduates in the starting lineup, with the boss commenting on two full debutants.
“Since day one of pre-season, Matt [Turner] has been exceptional. His attitude in terms of what we asked him to do, his commitment and his skill level as a goalkeeper has been outstanding and just based on what I saw, he was the clear pick for today. And for him to make such a key contribution at such a key stage in his first start was really beneficial for him.”
“And Joel [Colwill], there is a lot of competition in that position, but his appetite to do the things we’ve asked him to do and his relentless nature of application was evident, and for today’s game I thought he was the best call for that."
