Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press after his side completed a stunning comeback to beat Burnley 5-4 at CCS.
“I think it's a very memorable day because of the scoreline.” Brian began. “Obviously, with the players putting everything into the game and even at 4-1 down, we felt as if we could be dangerous if we could get the next goal - but we understood the consequences if we didn't. But, it ends up being a very special day for us. I think at this moment, that's why I'm very grateful for the players' mentality and the attitude to keep going for it.
"We were backed by an incredible stadium today. It was difficult for everybody at 4-1, but once we got that second goal, you could feel the energy from the stands and that was reciprocated on the pitch and the players poured forward.
"Every time we attacked their goal, we looked as if we could score, and every time they broke on us, they looked as if they could score! But I'd rather have it that way, because I think it's in line with the mentality of our support in the club to keep going for it.”
The Bluebirds were struggling with injuries going into the match, but still put on an outstanding display.
“When you see players want to play for the team so much, it's almost a throwback to days gone by. Even today, I know it was hard when we were losing, but I felt as if I was very lucky to be in the presence of players want to play for the club so much.
“I think it's indicative of where we are as a club. We have a very small squad that's stretched to a very extreme degree, but we have a lot of attacking players who are so young and so open to improvement.
"As long as you have that mentality, that belief in yourself and in your team's game, then anything's possible."
Alex Robertson scored the winner deep into added time, and Brian spoke about the midfielder's influence.
“It's pretty symbolic of our squad; a very young player playing a very responsible role as a holding midfield player. The position where he scores his own goal from is the position that he's done so much work to improve, but his mentality is symbolic of the team because he went down the other end, kept attacking, trying to create chances for us and scored a goal that I've seen him score many times throughout his footballing journey, because he has an incredible technical level.”
