City Women moved through to the next round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup after a 14-0 win against Trefelin BGC at Cardiff International Sports Campus.
The Bluebirds opened the scoring in the second minute, as Maddison Perrott capitalised on a loose ball in the box and fired low into the far corner, before doubling the advantage as Fiona Barry drove into the 18-yard box and fired high into the net.
Laura Curnock added the third after skipping past several defenders to drive into the area and striking into the near post. Perrott added a fourth and her second of the evening shortly before half time from close-range.
After the break, Barry claimed her second of the evening by heading in from close-range following a Lucy Nicholls cross, before Curnock converted from the penalty spot to make it six.
Perrott completed her hat-trick on the hour mark, as Barry squared a ball across the face of goal for the winger to tap into an empty net. Quick-fire goals from Shannon Evans and Amy Long further extended City’s lead.
Barry also completed her hat-trick after 70 minutes, as Perrott returned the favour by squaring the ball to Barry to convert from inside the area.
Substitutes Mackenzie Olden and Mikalyla Cook came off the bench and got in on the action, each bagging a brace as we approached full time and ensured City’s name was in the hat for the next round.
The result confirmed the Bluebirds will host The New Saints in the quarter-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup, which will take place on Sunday, February 8th.
