Trophy lift

Cardiff City FC Women lift Adran Premier title at CCS

Women
Cardiff City Women emerged 5-1 winners against Wrexham and lifted the adran premier title under the lights at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Goals from Rhianne Oakley, Mikayla Cook, Siobhan Walsh, Eliza Collie and Olivia Basham secured a memorable night for the Bluebirds, who have secured top spot for two consecutive seasons.

Head coach Iain Darbyshire returned to the line-up that clinched promotion in a 4-0 win against Swansea City.

Rhianne Oakley scores for Cardiff City Women

City got off to the perfect start, taking the lead in the sixth minute. Molly Kehoe played in Oakley, who rounded goalkeeper Del Morgan and slotted home for the opener. The Bluebirds had the ball in the back of the net shortly after through Ffion Price, but the defender was deemed to be offside.

It wasn’t long before it was 2-0 and it was in spectacular fashion, with Cook’s stunning free kick curling right into the top corner. Skipper Walsh also got her name on the scoresheet, heading in from Seren Watkins’ corner to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Eliza Collie celebrates scoring for Cardiff City

Similar to the first half, City started the second period strongly, with Collie getting her 17th league goal of the season and confirming her as this season’s top scorer, capitalising on a defensive mix up.

Cook was on hand to set up City’s fifth, brilliantly teeing up Basham to tap in shortly after coming off the bench. Wrexham pulled one back through Carra Jones, and almost added a second in the dying minutes, but was denied through substitute goalkeeper Anna Phelps

An emphatic win for the Bluebirds finished a fantastic league season, with attention now turning to the Adran Trophy Final against Swansea City at the SDM Glass Stadium on Sunday.
