CCS part of FIFA Women's World Cup bid

2035 FIFA Women's World Cup bid
Cardiff City Football Club is supporting a UK bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035.

The bid features 16 proposed host cities across Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including Cardiff, and is built on the powerful vision of ‘All Together’. It represents a commitment to delivering the most inclusive, inspiring and globally connected FIFA Women’s World Cup in history.

There are 22 proposed stadiums, including Cardiff City Stadium, that are supporting the bid as part of a venue network of exceptional standards.

The tournament will be a national celebration of culture, community and inclusion, connecting every part of the UK and inspiring fans worldwide, with the aim of creating a legacy to empower.

A major tournament hosted in the UK, such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup, would see Cardiff City Stadium build on major sporting events previously held at the home of Cardiff City FC, notably the 2014 UEFA Super Cup Final and the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final. It would also align with the continued growth of women’s domestic football in Wales, with Cardiff City FC Women seeing increased attendances in Adran Premier fixtures this season.

Our women’s programme has recently introduced a new U13s side and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035 would provide an aspirational target for young women footballers developing in the UK.

Iain Darbyshire, Head of Women’s and Girls’ Football at Cardiff City FC, said:With the launch of our new Cardiff City F.C Girls Academy, we are building pathways for young talent; it is entirely possible that a girl training with us today could go on to represent Wales in a home World Cup.

“The growth of the women’s game has been nothing short of extraordinary, and hosting a World Cup here in Wales will inspire a generation to dream bigger, aim higher, and believe that the ‘impossible’ is absolutely within their reach.”
