Perry Ng spoke to Cardiff City TV following City’s defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
“We can be proud of our performance tonight,” Perry began. “We went toe-to-toe with them, we had nothing to lose, and I thought we were fantastic. The goals were a bit sloppy which is a bit frustrating, but a fantastic night, unbelievable atmosphere, and now we can kick on from here.
“All the young lads have been fantastic so far. We made some mistakes, and I feel so sorry for Dylan [Lawlor], but he can take so much confidence in that game. We came face to face with one of the best teams in the world and we can only gain confidence.
“We had chances, but when you play a top team like Chelsea, they are so clinical. You give them one little chance and they score. It is frustrating, but we can be proud.”
The Bluebirds fought hard against the FIFA Club World Cup winners and created plenty of chances throughout the game, including Perry's cross for David Turnbull's flying header.
The defender said: “That’s one thing under Brian [Barry-Murphy] that we’ve adopted, and that’s the fact we won’t change our style for anyone. Even if we play Barcelona or Real Madrid, we wouldn’t change. Our line was extremely high, and a lot of teams in the Premier League would sit off them [Chelsea] and still get beat, so we thought why not go toe-to-toe and see what happens. It was just small moments in the game that killed us.
“In recent times we would sit off them and let them have all the ball. That’s one thing you know you’re getting with Brian and the lads here. We will go after anyone on the pitch and make it tough for them. You could see they struggled a bit with that, but now we go and kick on into Saturday.”
The game also marked the right-back’s 200th appearance in a City shirt, and the defender is hoping there are plenty more matches to come.
“It’s crazy how fast time goes,” Perry concluded. “It’s a proud moment for me tonight with all my family and friends in the stands. I’m made up to make it to 200 appearances. It’s a shame we couldn’t take it to penalties and go through, but I hope there’s many more to come.”
