After Cardiff City’s 3-0 win over Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup, Matt Turner spoke to Cardiff City TV.
“We are buzzing in the dressing room,” Matt began. “It was a good performance. There are still things we’re working on and still things we need to improve on, but overall, a good performance and a good win."
It was a positive night for Turner, who saved Lee Angol’s first half penalty to preserve City two-goal lead heading into the break.
“Me, Jenks, and Wardy all have a look at the penalties and try and work out where we think the penalty taker is going to put them. Thankfully the research paid off.
“Penalties are always an opportunity to make yourself a hero, and thankfully today, it has worked. It’s one of those things where it’s just part of the job. We make saves at big times, and tonight was no different.”

Turner is part of a strong goalkeeping department, and the Welsh keeper praised the competition in the dressing room, as well as the new style of play.
“It’s been a good summer,” Matt continued. “We came in pre-season and everyone looked sharp, but when Nathan joined, he helped to improve the standard as well. It’s been a good group of keepers to work with, and throughout pre-season we’ve pushed each other, and the performances are showing that.
“The manager and Gavin Ward speak a lot to me. They keep giving me information about what the manager wants us to do and how the team wants to play. It’s important that we do those things, but we just have to do what we can.”

Our penalty hero ended by praising the atmosphere and environment in and around the squad.
“Obviously, I’m not one of the youngest ones anymore because we have such a young squad, but that helps us in the dressing room because everyone clicks together better,” Matt ended. “It’s easier for the young lads to come in when all the young lads are in there. It’s an easy dressing room to come into.
“I’m loving every moment at the minute. It’s a fun dressing room. All the boys are there, and even the way the manager is around the place. It’s a fun and relaxed atmosphere.”
