Last Saturday's 3-2 victory over Swindon Town included a debut for Jack Moylan, who marked his first City appearance with a superb first time strike into the top right corner.
Ahead of our opening Championship game, we take a look at some other players who have impressed on their Bluebirds' debuts...
JOHN TOSHACK
A true icon of Cardiff, John Toshack became the Bluebirds' youngest ever player in November 1965 when he came on as a substitute against Leyton Orient. Starting his career as he meant to go on, Toshack found the back of the net in a 3-1 win and became the youngest ever Bluebirds goalscorer at only 16 years and 236 days old, a record he still holds to this day.
After such a successful debut, City manager Jimmy Scoular promoted Toshack to the starting XI. His faith was repaid when he scored a brace on his full debut, a 4-3 away victory over Middlesbrough. Toshack's very strong start was the beginning of an incredibly successful career, which saw him make over 160 appearances for City and score 74 times. He went on to achieve great success as a player with Liverpool and as a manager with Real Madrid, and also enjoyed a memorable period as manager of the Wales national team.
JASON KOUMAS
Almost 40 years on, in the summer of 2005, West Bromwich Albion loaned out playmaker Jason Koumas to the Bluebirds, and the Welshman's career in Cardiff couldn’t have got off to a better start. After being introduced as a substitute, he scored the equaliser in a 2-1 victory over Leeds United, which also saw Darren Purse score a penalty to seal a quickfire Ninian Park turnaround.
Koumas had a spectacular season for City which earned him the Club's Player of the Season Award and won him a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Season. He scored 13 goals in 44 appearances, including a special hat-trick in a 3-3 draw away at Luton Town.
Jason was loaned out to the Bluebirds again for a second spell in 2011, making his debut against Doncaster Rovers by coming off the bench to replace fellow countryman Craig Bellamy.
STEVE THOMPSON
Six months after signing Koumas, Bluebirds boss Dave Jones was on the lookout for a new number nine. City signed Steve Thompson from Rangers, and four days later he was named in the starting lineup for a Championship match against Burnley.
He opened his account in South Wales by converting Willie Boland's cross, firing home from close range. Only two minutes later he doubled his tally after some nice control and a fierce finish. After Thompson’s debut brace he played just under 100 times for City, forming partnerships with the likes of Michael Chopra and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
CRAIG BELLAMY
Craig Bellamy joined his hometown club on a season-long loan from Manchester City in 2010. The Cardiff-born attacker made his debut against Doncaster Rovers in what was a superb 4-0 victory, with the new recruit showing his skills from the dead ball. He rifled home a free-kick from 35 yards to mark his first match for City with a special goal.
After returning to Manchester City and then moving to Liverpool, Bellamy re-joined the Bluebirds in 2012. The forward achieved his dream of playing Premier League football with City by winning promotion to the top flight in 2013. Since retiring from playing, he has followed in the footsteps of fellow goalscoring debutant John Toshack by becoming Wales manager.
KENNY MILLER
In the summer of 2011, the Bluebirds fought off interest from other sides to secure the signing of experienced Scottish forward Kenny Miller from Turkish side Bursaspor. That season, City travelled to the Boleyn Ground to face Sam Allardyce's promotion favourites West Ham United on the opening weekend.
After an uneventful game, it took until the 91st minute for the deadlock to be broken by the debutant Miller, who fired home past Rob Green from inside the box, celebrating in front of the travelling fans with a trademark Ayatollah, marking an away day which still lives long in the memory of City supporters. Miller helped the Bluebirds reach the EFL Cup Final that season, but departed after a single campaign.
FRAIZER CAMPBELL
In the January transfer window of 2013, City boosted their attacking ranks by completing the signature of Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell. Thrown straight into the action in a Championship match against Leeds United, it took the new signing just over a minute to open his account for the Bluebirds.
Campbell converted from close range after Craig Bellamy’s effort fell straight into his path. That goal gave City a win over Leeds United, which ended their unbeaten run and moved the Bluebirds 10 points clear at the top of the Championship table. Campbell had a particularly impressive first month in South Wales, scoring all of our goals that February, which earned him the Championship's Player of the Month Award.
SOL BAMBA
As debuts go, this one was pretty memorable for all the right reasons. Neil Warnock's first game as Bluebirds boss was an especially tasty one; a Severnside derby under the CCS lights, and, adding to the sense of drama, City's new gaffer brought a few new faces with him to excite the Bluebirds crowd.
Straight into the XI from the off, Junior Hoilett's quality was clear for all to see, but it was the commanding presence of Sol Bamba which proved to be the main talking point of the evening. Without a club for over a month since leaving Leeds United, Sol strode into the heart of the City defence as if he had been there for years.
A colossal defensive display from the Ivorian was capped off in the 67th minute, as Bamba rose highest to meet a loose ball and prod it into the Bristol City net. It was the winner in a 2-1 triumph, getting the Warnock era off to a perfect start, and a display which handed Sol the first of many Man of the Match Awards at CCS.
JORDAN HUGILL
Jordan Hugill joined the Bluebirds from Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the season on January 30th, 2022. The next day, City hosted Nottingham Forest at CCS.
Hugill went straight into Steve Morrison's starting XI and wasted no time in securing the backing of the Bluebirds supporters. After only six minutes, Hugill broke away from the Forest backline and fired City ahead.
Isaak Davies scored the eventual winner, but it was Hugill's performance which saw the loanee named Man of the Match. The result was City's third home league win of the season, their first league victory since November and helped them move away from the relegation places.
ROMAINE SAWYERS
City began their 2022/23 season with a fierce affair against Norwich City at Cardiff City Stadium. Romaine Sawyers was one of several new recruits that summer, having joined on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion, and started in midfield for Steve Morrison's side alongside fellow new boy Andy Rinomhota.
Four minutes after the restart, Sawyers found himself in some space on the edge of the box and struck home with pinpoint accuracy to give City the lead. The game ended with both sides down to 10 men after red cards for Perry Ng and Grant Hanley, but City held on to start the season with a victory thanks to that superb Sawyers strike.
