City Spotlight | Seren Thomas - From grassroots to international stage

Seren Thomas
Seren Thomas is one of the youngest members of our Women's senior team, making her debut for us at just 15, and has been called up to represent Wales U17s at the European Qualifiers.

We caught up with Seren to reflect on a positive few months...

A RAPID RISE

Seren's football journey began at primary school, where she developed her love for the game.

She played for an U11s boys team, and later joined Cardiff Met U13s' squad before going on to play at Penybont for two seasons.

After signing for the Bluebirds, she made her senior debut at 15 years old in September.

"A lot of boys in my primary school played football. I joined in at lunch, and just like that, I started playing football," she began.

"I think it's been a really good journey, and I'm really excited to keep on developing. The biggest difference in the step up is the physicality, and how all the other players around me, in the games and in the teams, have a lot more experience.

"I find with the women there's more switches of play, and they'll wait for the right moment. It's more calm in that sense.

"But I think it's going to really help me become more aware of my game and help me develop a lot."

REPRESENTING WALES

As well as impressing at Club level, Seren continues to progress on the international stage, being selected this month for Wales' U17s Euro Qualifiers squad.

Seren continued: "I felt really proud when I found out I was selected, and representing Wales is always a massive honour.

“I think getting the opportunity to be involved in a competition is something that I'm really grateful for, and I think it's going to be a great chance to challenge myself.

"I'm excited to be playing against new countries, I think it's going to be a really enjoyable experience, and I'm excited to see what Wales as a team can achieve."

Wales kicked off their qualifying campaign with a convincing 3-0 win against Luxembourg, followed by a 3-2 win against Georgia. One fixture remains against North Macedonia on October 31st.

"I want to keep getting selected for squads because it's a really good opportunity.

"It makes me feel proud wearing the badge; it's only a squad of around 20 and to be a part of that feels really special."

Her ambitions offer a glimpse into her passion for the game, and her commitment to building from every experience.

"I want to keep getting selected for squads because it's a good opportunity and it makes me feel really proud."
