CHELTENHAM TOWN 6-3 CARDIFF CITY
The Bluebirds began preparations for the 2025/26 season with a valuable away clash against Cheltenham Town on 29th June.
Our opponents finished eighth in The FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season, the third tier of the English pyramid.
Iain Darbyshire’s side, after two weeks of pre-season training, got their first taste of match action in a 6-3 defeat, in which Fiona Barry netted twice, along with a goal for Mackenzie Olden.
A theme of pre-season throughout the last three years of competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League has been preparing for Europe with stern tests against sides in the English pyramid, with our clash against Cheltenham Town proving highly productive ahead of taking on Athlone Town in July.
EXETER CITY 2-1 CARDIFF CITY
City's second pre-season fixture game was an away fixture against Exeter City.
Competing in the same league as our first opponents Cheltenham Town, the Grecians finished fourth in the table last season.
Iain Darbyshire's side took the lead in the first half through Maddison Perrott, marking the Bluebirds' positive start to the game.
The hosts came back into the contest however, finding an equaliser in the first half, before scoring taking the lead in the second period. City made several changes around the hour-mark, with more valuables minutes gained on the field for the squad.
CARDIFF CITY 2-2 BRISTOL ROVERS
Returning to Cardiff International Sports Campus for the third game of pre-season, the Bluebirds took on Bristol Rovers.
After a competitive opening 45 minutes, City raced into a 2-0 lead after the break with goals from Ffion Price and Mikayla Cook.
The opposition fought their way back into the contest, as the game finished in 2-2 draw, as preparations continue for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
