Danielle Green announces retirement after stellar career

Danielle Green
After 13 successful years at Cardiff City, Danielle Green has announced her retirement from football with immediate effect.

Danielle has been a fantastic servant to the Women's programme at the Club and has enjoyed huge success during her time with the Bluebirds.

Operating as both a winger and a wing-back, she showed huge ability in the Adran Premier for well over a decade, winning everything there is to be won in the domestic game.

In recent years, Danielle has also been an important figure in guiding our young players, as City continue to provide a platform for talented youngsters to develop.

We'd like to thank Danielle for her amazing service and congratulate her on a stellar career.

Speaking to Cardiff City TV on her decision, she began: “For me, I’m getting older and have bigger responsibilities. If I leave now, I’m leaving on a massive high with everything that I’ve achieved, so now is the right time for me to announce my retirement.

"It's been an honour to play for this Club for so many years. Every time I go out there wearing that shirt, I wear it with pride and passion. I’m thankful for that opportunity that I’ve had.

"It’s just been amazing. There have just been so many highs throughout my time, from where I started to where I am now.

"I just show so much passion when we win because we play against good teams, so every goal means everything to us and I think everyone can hear it when we score from myself, whether it’s me scoring, or others, I just try to boost the team always and you can see that in the celebrations.

“All the players that I’ve played with have been amazing. They’ve helped shape me into a better player and person. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have myself, as well as collectively, without them. I just want to say a thank you to them."

During Danielle's time at the Club, the Women's programme has seen huge development that has culminated in winning three consecutive Adran Premier titles.

Leaving City Women in a healthy position, she concluded: “It’s been amazing to see the growth. The fans have made a huge difference in that, buying tickets and showing their support for us, it’s really helped. It’s made us into the players we are now.

“You can see it in the team now. There are so many talented youngsters coming through. We’ve got an U13s team now as well, so there are amazing foundations to build on and I can see that the talent will grow and this team will get better and better."

"She has been a pleasure to work with, not only for her performances on the field, but also her presence off it, providing an important figure for our young players to take guidance and learn from.

"As she takes her next steps in her life away from football, myself, the staff and all the players wish her all the very best."
