Famara Diédhiou scores for Cardiff City

Diédhiou post-Southampton | An unbelievable feeling

Interviews
Famara Diédhiou spoke to the press after Cardiff City’s 2-1 triumph over Southampton.

“I’m absolutely buzzing after that,” Famara began. “It was an unbelievable three points. Everyone put in some really good work and I’m just happy to get the win.

"Picking up three points against Southampton is never easy. It wasn’t an easy first half for us. They scored early on, but also missed some chances, but I think we have a strong mentality to come back and win the game at the end.

“The manager tells us to play with freedom. Sometimes mistakes happen, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Today, we tried to do our best, and it worked, just like it did in the Ipswich game.

"Previously we scored in the 90+10th minute, today it was 90+6. It shows that we have a good mentality.”

The striker managed to bring City back level with a close-range finish, his first goal in front of the Canton Stand and second in a City shirt.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for that moment! We kept going throughout the second half and tried to push everyone on.

"The Gaffer too was telling us to push, and he talked with us before and told us to take our chances and play easily. We kept pushing, and we got a really good three points at the end.”

Diédhiou concluded by praising matchwinner Cian Ashford, who made his first start for the Bluebirds on Saturday.

“I’m just really happy for him,” Famara ended. “The celebration in front of the fans showed how much it meant for him to score.

"The manager tries to give chances to everyone, and that includes the young lads as well. Ash has been playing well, and honestly, he is such a good and talented player.

"He shows it in training just how good he is. The gaffer gave him a chance today and he took it. I think he is the future of the club, and it’s a really good moment for him.”
