Eli post-Notts County | There’s a responsibility on everyone

Eli King
City midfielder Eli King spoke to Cardiff City TV following the draw with Notts County at Meadow Lane.

"I thought we played some really good stuff," Eli began. "We played at a good intensity. Then, to be fair, they score a worldie in the second half and get a bit of momentum from that, but it was a really good test. Everybody has got minutes again, so we feel ready for next week now.

"It’s important when you play in central midfield, especially with the way the gaffer wants us to play. You need a variety; you need to be able to play the split passes, and then when the game gets a bit more compact be able to switch the ball, so that’s what I’m trying to do.

"It’s an important season for me, but it is for the Club more than me, so we’re all looking forward to getting started now and getting some momentum going."

Eli has experience of playing in this league, following a season on loan with Stevenage last term. He added: "There’s going to be a lot of tough teams that play. A lot of the teams are good quality, but every team is going to be tough, every team is going to be resolute, and that’s probably going to be the main thing.

"When we come up against teams that have got a game plan for us, it’s up to us to dissect them and work our way through them."

Eli also gave us an insight into working with new City head coach, Brian Barry-Murphy, saying: "I think he’s got everyone enjoying playing football, enjoying training. There’s a lot of responsibility on everyone, but that’s good. I think we need that as footballers, to come into work every day knowing your role and having something expected of you to fulfil.

"Every player wants to know that the spot in the team is up for grabs, it gives you more motivation in the week. I’m really optimistic, and I share that with everybody in the squad. I'm looking forward to the atmosphere, the buzz of a game day, seeing the fans again and giving them something to cheer about."
