Exeter City reaction | Alex Robertson

Alex Robertson spoke to the assembled press following City’s 1-0 victory over the Grecians in Sky Bet League One.

“It was a really good game,” Robertson began. “They were tough to break down, but once we got the goal it settled everything a little bit. The most important thing was getting the three points, and it was nice to finish the year with a goal.

“I’ve actually scored a goal identical to that when Brian was my manager at [Manchester] City, so he was quite pleased. As soon as Dylan got the ball, I knew he had the ability to play that pass. He’s an amazing centre-back and a great passer of the ball. I took a touch, shot, and it went in.”

The win marked a positive Boxing Day for City, with Robertson highlighting the influence of head coach Brian Barry-Murphy and the style of football being implemented.

“I’ve got a great relationship with Brian,” he added. “I kept in touch with him even when he wasn’t here last season, and I really enjoyed playing under him before. He loves playing football, building from the back and getting up the other end of the pitch, and that’s part of our game plan. That’s what we work on every day.

“He sees the game in a different way to most managers, and that’s how I see football too. It’s how I was brought up. The way Brian wants us to play is the way I know, and I think everyone is on the same wavelength and enjoying their football under him and the coaching staff.”

Today’s win saw the Bluebirds maintain their lead at the top of the Sky Bet League One table ahead of Monday’s clash with Stevenage.

Alex concluded: “It’s about just taking things game by game, you can’t look too far ahead. We’ll do everything we can to prepare for Stevenage on Monday and try and win that game.

“We need to keep winning as many games as we can and try to pull away from everyone.”
