City boss Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to Cardiff City TV following the 5-1 pre-season victory over Forest Green Rovers.
The Bluebirds scored five impressive first half goals, while gaining much needed minutes in preparation for the return of competitive football.
"I think fitness wise we're improving a lot, and that's very pleasing,” Brian began. "Obviously we want to try and improve our fitness as much as possible, while also not risking any injuries. Today was a very beneficial game for us.
"Our game is very dependent on speed, intensity and real aggression. As we go through the gears in pre-season that should naturally improve.
"I'm grateful to Forest Green Rovers for giving us a game and to have the supporters we had here today was incredible."
BBM continued: "I think there are a lot of areas that we can improve on the pitch.
"We want to add to the squad and improve it as well.
"When all these things come together, we'll be in a really healthy place."
For City, it’s AS Roma back in the Welsh capital next Saturday, before opening our 2026/27 campaign with the Carabao Cup clash against Swindon Town.
"We all have a lot to prove, always.
"Our intention is prove it in actions, rather than words."
