FPA Focus | Fraizer Campbell

On this day in 2013, we welcomed Fraizer Campbell to Cardiff City!

Earlier this season, we caught up with Fraizer in The Bluebird Programme to reflect on his time at City!

Fraizer, how do you reflect on your playing days?

When you’re a little boy and you’re playing with your mates, everyone is dreaming about being at the highest level, playing for your favourite club, representing your country and fortunately for me, I was able to do that. It’s been a great career that I’ve enjoyed every single minute of.

What drew you to sign for Cardiff City?

I was at Sunderland and wasn’t playing much football. Coming back after an 18-month injury, I got back fit and just wanted to play. When the opportunity to came up to come to Cardiff City, who were top of the Championship, it made perfect sense for me to enjoy sunny Wales.

You must have been delighted to score on your debut at Leeds United?

When you go to a new club, have new teammates and play in front of a new fanbase, it’s not until you see those things in the flesh that you grow an understanding. The first 15 minutes of wearing a Cardiff City shirt, I scored at Elland Road so it was the perfect start and I continued from there.

How much pride do you take from being a part of the side that got promoted to the Premier League?

It was an honour. Once you settle into the Club, you realise how much it means to the fans. They were a team that consistently were in and around the Play-Offs but didn’t quite manage to take that step, so to be part of the team that managed to do that and get us over the line, it’s something that I sit back now and remember really fondly.

Where does your iconic brace against Manchester City rank in your career?

It’s definitely one of my highlights. When you retire, you look back and see that it was a special moment. Playing in the first Premier League game at Cardiff City Stadium against Manchester City and to go on to beat them, it was brilliant. Fresh from pre-season, everyone was excited, we turned up and put on a great show. I’ll always remember that game.
