Sean Morrison
Today marks the 35th birthday of former Bluebirds captain Sean Morrison!

Earlier this season, we caught up with Moz in The Bluebird Programme to reflect on his time at City!

Sean, how do you reflect on your time in the Welsh capital?

Now that I have time to reflect on the career I had, I spent a massive part of that at City. I think back to the day I signed, all the different seasons we had, it was all amounting towards that extremely special campaign we had in 2017/18 when we got promoted to the Premier League. To put on the Cardiff City shirt so many times and to have captained the Club, it’s something I’m so proud of. I look back so fondly on all those games.

How much do you enjoy being in the area?

I absolutely adore it. As a family, we’ve stayed here and have lived here since 2014. We decided that Cardiff would be our home forever. I think that tells you everything you need to know about the area; we absolutely love it. My son was born here in Wales and will go to school here, so it’s an area that we have fallen in love with.

What can you tell us about that special promotion-winning team?

It was a proper, solid bunch of men who were a family. That’s what we were. I remember having an engagement party in August of that year and the whole team and the gaffer came. There were birthday parties, team events, and it just felt like from the start of the year, everyone would be there for each other. Something clicked that year where we were all in it together. Neil Warnock was there who had been there and done it. We had a great squad, but some amazing leaders as well. My job as captain was as easy as it could have been because we had so many lads who held each other accountable. Everyone got on board and that all led to us getting promoted.

Was there a specific point during that season that you thought it would end in promotion?

There must have been a point where we felt everything clicked and we thought we could go up, but I think that would have been quite late on if I’m honest. We started the season really well and kept in good form, had a bit of a sticky patch around Christmas. Wolves and Fulham had amazing squads, so we just had to stay in and around it. It wasn’t until about February or March where we went on a big run that we thought we could get into the top two. Fulham were on fire so it was between us and them for that second place. It got down to a really tense time of who could pick up the most wins in the last eight games and who could keep their nerve.

Sean Morrison celebrates his stunning goal against Hull City...

Where does that day at Hull City and securing promotion against Reading rank in your career?

It’s between those two as my best moments! The game against Reading at home, once the final whistle went, it was amazing. I would say that was the best moment in my career and my brace at Hull the week before would rank second. It’s very close between the two because the feeling I got once the second goal went in, I’ll never forget that!
