International Bluebirds: City's October Call-Ups

Following another busy month of Championship football, the October international break has arrived.

With many Bluebirds being given a respite by the break, several City players will switch to the international stage over the coming week, having been called up by their respective countries for a number of competitive and friendly fixtures.

Bacuna
Leandro Bacuna 

Having made 10 appearances so far in City's 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season, Leandro Bacuna will travel to play for Curaçao in their match against Costa Rica on Sunday, 13th October. The fixture, which is set to take place at home in the Ergilio Hato Stadium, Curaçao, will be the country's third match in their CONCACAF Nations League campaign, of which they currently lead with four points taken from two fixtures.

Ciaron Brown

Gavin Whyte & Ciaron Brown 

Bluebirds Gavin Whyte and Ciaron Brown have both been called up to play for Northern Ireland during the October international break. Whyte made two appearances during the last break, including a run out as a substitute against Germany in a European qualifiers match at home in Windsor Park. 

The two also shared the pitch for Ciaron Brown's international debut against Luxembourg, with Northern Ireland coming away with a 1-0 victory in the international friendly fixture. Brown impressed on his debut at Windsor Park, playing for the full 90 minutes under the management of Martin O'Neill.

The Green and White Army will face the Netherlands in a European Qualifier match in Rotterdam on Thursday, before then heading off for a friendly fixture in Prague against the Czech Republic next Monday.

Neil Etheridge

City 'keeper Neil Etheridge has been called up to play for the Philippines during this international break. The Azkals are set to play two matches over the course of the break, beginning with a friendly match against Thai Premier League side Chainat Hornbill on Thursday.

On the following Tuesday, the Philippines will continue their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign as they host current Group A leaders China. The Azkals are currently third in their group, with a victory over their opponents on Tuesday potentially promoting them to first place.

Junior Hoilett

Following a hat-trick for his country in September's match against Cuba, Junior Hoilett will return to play for Canada during the October international break. Playing in his home city of Toronto, the winger is set to face rival nation USA as the Canucks continue their CONCACAF Nations League campaign.

Will Vaulks

Wales international player and City midfielder Will Vaulks has been called up yet again by Ryan Giggs for Wales' Euro Qualifier matches in October.

Vaulks, who already has four caps under his belt for Wales, will be looking to make further appearances as Wales play against both Slovakia and Croatia over the course of the international break, with both sides currently above the Dragons on the Group E table.

Sunday's match against the 2018 World Cup finalist will take place on home ground for Vaulks, as his country run out once again at Cardiff City Stadium.

Cameron Coxe
Cameron Coxe, George Ratcliffe & Sion Spence

With Wales' U21 side continuing their Euro U21 qualifying campaign against Moldova on Friday, Cameron Coxe, George Ratcliffe & Sion Spence have been called up to the side. 

Travelling to Orhei, Wales will play against Moldova on Friday, where a victory could give the side a boost from third to third place in a very competitive group, which also includes the likes of Germany and Belgium.

Four young Bluebirds called up for Wales U19

Ahead of Wales's U19 side running out in a friendly against Austria, young Bluebirds Sam Bowen, Isaak Davies, Kieron Evans, Harry Pinchard and Keenan Patten have all been called up to the 20-man squad by Wales U19 manager Rob Edwards.

Wales' match against Austria will take place at Dragon Park, in Newport.
