Lisa Owen to depart after brilliant 12 years

Lisa Owen
After 12 years at Cardiff City, Lisa Owen will bid farewell to the Bluebirds following the expiration of her contract this summer.

Lisa has been a crucial part of the side since joining in 2014. During her time in the Welsh capital, she won the Adran Premier title in the 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, whilst also lifting the Adran Trophy in 2024.

Owen won the Bute Energy Welsh Cup six times and played in the UEFA Women's Champions League in three separate campaigns.

A clear highlight of her time at City came in December 2022, when Lisa made her inspiring return to football after giving birth. She marked the occasion with a goal and has since balanced work, motherhood and representing the Bluebirds to brilliant effect.

We’d like to thank Lisa for her huge contribution to our success and wish her all the best in her next steps.

Speaking to Cardiff City TV, Lisa said: “It’s been amazing. I’ve loved every minute of it and it’s been a huge journey. There was a time where you could look at the games in this league and you could predict who would win, you would know who would be in the top four every year. It wasn’t as competitive as it is now; the Adran Premier is so different. Teams are always taking points off each other and every game is difficult. This year has been the most competitive it's ever been and it’s great to see that.

“We’ve had so many talented players at the Club through my time here and I’ve made friends for life. I’ve been so lucky to take the field with those players and the characters that we’ve had, it’s been amazing.

“There’s been so many memories. Coming back after having a baby and scoring that goal on my return, that was so special. Scoring at Cardiff City Stadium was another big moment for me. The team have been there for me the whole time and they’ve seen me grow both as a player and as a person.

“From the bottom of my heart, I’m so grateful for our support. Those that come to our games, home and away, and all the players’ families, the backing that they’ve given me and my teammates has been second to none and I can’t thank them enough.”
