Luton Town reaction | Joel Colwill

Joel Colwill celebrates scoring for Cardiff City FC
Joel Colwill spoke to the press following his man of the match performance in City’s 3-1 home win against Luton Town.

“It was a really good afternoon." Joel began. “I think we gave a good account of ourselves and played some really good football, especially in the first half, but even in the second I thought we saw the game out well and controlled possession.

"Any time you can help the team is a positive thing, so I’m glad to have scored and assisted in the game, but ultimately the team performance got us over the line today and I’m just glad to be a part of it.

“I did see the keeper edging to the right a bit, so if he was stood in the middle, I probably would have slipped Omari [Kellyman] in, but I thought ‘I can’t miss this one, surely!'

"I like to think I can help the team with a couple of goals throughout the year and contribute to the team, but there is more to the game than that."

Today’s result continues City’s unbeaten run, now standing at 11 games, and further extends the lead at the Sky Bet League One summit.

Joel continued: “We try not to look at the table and take every game as they come. As long as we keep getting results and picking up points we’ll look to go clear of the teams below us, but we take it game by game and try and focus on what’s in our hands.

“I think we do have the best team in the league. That’s no discredit to Luton, who have a very strong team, but I think ours is the strongest in the league.

“Personally, I do think I have developed this year. Since Brian [Barry-Murphy] has come in, we've done a lot of work on my development. I think it’s key at every stage of your career to see what you can improve; there's always more you can do and more you can give, and I think I’ve come on quite a bit and I’d like to continue showing that in games.”

Today’s result also saw the return of Joel's brother Rubin after his long injury lay-off.

“It's really good to see him back." Joel concluded. “I think he's a key part to the rest of the season, and he has a lot more to offer. I think he had a brilliant first quarter of the season up until he got injured and I think he's going to have a brilliant second half of the season.

"I'm just really excited to see what he brings now. I think if we could have brought a player like him in January, we'd all be buzzing! Having him back is going to boost us even more now to get us over the line, so we're all truly happy he's back.”
