The Addicks, managed by former Bluebird Nathan Jones, began the 2026/27 season with three straight victories, beating Cheltenham Town (Carabao Cup), Derby County and West Ham United.
While Tottenham Hotspur were victorious in R2 of the Carabao Cup, Athletic managed to return to winning ways against Preston North End at the end of August.
Since then though, Jones' side are winless in four. They recorded three draws in September, against West Bromwich Albion, QPR and Portsmouth, while suffering a heavy defeat away from home against Stoke City.
Jones has been in charge at the Valley since February of 2024, guiding the side to promotion from League One in his first full year in charge, before overseeing a 19th place finish in the Championship last season.

Charlton Athletic welcomed seven new permanent signings during the summer months and five loanees.
Ivan Mesík (defender, Heracles Almelo), Billy Koumetio (defender, Dundee), Danny McNamara (defender, Millwall), Millenic Alli (winger, Luton Town), Nathaniel Chalobah (midfielder, Sheffield Wednesday), Junior Nkeng (forward, AFC Wimbledon) and former Bluebird loanee Karlan Grant (forward, West Bromwich Albion) joined the Club on permanent contracts.
Loanees Timothy Ouma (midfielder, Slavia Prague), Arthur Okonkwo (goalkeeper, Wrexham), Tyler Bindon (defender, Nottingham Forest), Oliver Skipp (midfielder, Leicester City) and Otto Tiitinen (midfielder, Ilves) have come in on deals until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Of their new signings, Grant is the only player to start all seven leagues matches so far this term, scoring once. Tyreece Campbell and Lloyd Jones are the two other Addicks to have begun every game thus far.
Campbell is top goalscorer for Nathan Jones' side so far this term with three strikes (four all in competitions), while defender Jones has impressively struck twice in the league and once in the cup.

BLUEBIRDS & ADDICKS | PLAYED FOR THEM BOTH
As mentioned previously, Charlton Athletic forward Karlan Grant spent a season on loan with the Bluebirds during the 2023/24 season, from West Bromwich Albion.
Grant's work rate on the left side of attack impressed throughout the campaign. He netted six times while in Cardiff City blue. Karlan came through with the Addicks, making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2014. His first league goal came against the Bluebirds in September of 2015.
Grant left Charlton Athletic for Premier League Huddersfield Town in 2019, before joining the Baggies in October of 2020. He spent six years in the Midlands, returning to the Valley this summer.
Another forward to have spent a spell with City and Charlton Athletic was Tony Watt. The Scottish-born striker joined the Bluebirds from the Addicks on loan for two months during the 2015/16 season.
Watt would score twice in nine games for the Bluebirds before spending the rest of the season out on loan at Blackburn Rovers. In two years with Charlton Athletic Watt scored nine times from 53 league appearances. Famed for scoring the winning goal for Celtic against Barcelona in the Champions League in 2012, Watt, now 32, is still banging in goals to this day. The forward now plays for Partick Thistle.
Other players to have donned the shirts of both Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic include Roger Johnson, Mark Hudson, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Connor Wickham, Chris Gunter, Adam Matthews, Dillon Phillips and current City defender Krystian Bielik.
