23/08/2011 | Cardiff City 5-3 Huddersfield Town

Town's first ever visit to Cardiff City Stadium came during the 2011/12 season, in the League Cup (then known as the Carling Cup).

The Bluebirds and the Terriers did battle in the second round, and it turned out to be a stormer of a match.

City took a two goal advantage, but relied upon a late equaliser to take it to extra time.

Gábor Gyepes and Jon Parkin netted within a minute of each other in the first half, but a Jordan Rhodes double, with a goal from future Bluebird, Danny Ward, in the middle, gave the League One side the edge.

Don Cowie levelled the match in the 90th minute to take the game to extra time. In the added on period, Craig Conway and Cowie ensured it would be City that progressed. This game was City legend, Joe Ralls', first start for the Club.

This League Cup campaign would be especially memorable for the Bluebirds, with City reaching the final and taking Liverpool all the way to a penalty shootout in a valiant display.

Town would finish the season in a play-off space, with Rhodes netting an impressive 36 times in the league. They would eventually win promotion at Wembley, with Alex Smithies a hero in the penalty shootout against Sheffield United.
