KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | THE CANARIES
Having been appointed in November of last year, manager Philippe Clement made an instant impact on the club. They rose through the league, eventually finishing in ninth place in 2025/26.
The Canaries have suffered two losses to start the Sky Bet Championship season though. They were defeated at home, 2-1, on opening day by West Bromwich Albion and followed that up with a 3-0 loss on the weekend at Millwall.
They have recruited five players so far for the First Team squad during the summer transfer window. Sam Field (CM, QPR), Andre Brooks (LW, Sheffield United), Darlin Yongwa (LB, Lorient) and two loanees in Bruno Alves (CB, Cruzeiro) and Anthony Musaba (LW, Fenerbahçe) have joined the Club.
Last season's top goalscorer was Jovon Makama, who linked up with the Canaries from Lincoln City during the summer of 2025. Makama netted 10 league goals from just 28 appearances, missing the latter half of the campaign with a broken bone in his foot. The 22-year-old is yet to appear this season.
34-year-old Kenny McLean is Norwich City's captain. The midfielder joined the Club in 2018 and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Canaries in all competitions. McLean famously scored from the half-way line for Scotland to help secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup, defeating Denmark, 4-2, in a pulsating clash.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | ROUND ONE ROUND-UP
The Canaries reached this stage by defeating League One side MK Dons on Saturday, August 8th, 2026.
Forward Mohamed Touré opened the scoring, before Anis Ben Slimane made it 2-0 inside seven minutes.
Ben Chrisene added a third goal before the half-time whistle to all but secure Norwich's passage through.
Three former Bluebirds were heavily involved at the start of the second half. After Callum Paterson was felled in the box, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing saw his spot kick saved. They did reduce the deficit though when Ryan Wintle volleyed in on his Dons debut after 56 minutes.
The Canaries reestablished their three goal advantage within three minutes, with Andre Brooks scoring on his first outing for the Club. 4-1 was how the score remained to setup this clash with the Bluebirds in R2.
SHARED CONNECTIONS | A BLUEBIRD & A CANARY
There are many players who have appeared in the blue of Cardiff City and yellow of Norwich City over the years. For this preview, we've decided to focus on those who directly made that move.
Following two-and-a-half years in Norfolk, David Marshall moved to Cardiff City in May 2009. For seven years, Marshy showed why he was so highly rated by our fanbase and also those around the globe. His performances during the 2013/14 Premier League season earned Marshall a place in the Sky Sports Premier League Team of the Year as well as the Club's Player of the Year award. He captained the Bluebirds from 2014-2016, before leaving to return to the Premier League with Hull City in August of 2016.
In the summer of 2014, Anthony Pilkington left the Canaries after three seasons, linking up with Cardiff City. Pilks spent longer with the Bluebirds than any other Club in his career, staying in South Wales for four-and-a-half years. Always a danger, whether playing on the wing, or through the middle, Pilkington netted 20 league goals for City. His importance during the 2017/18 promotion campaign should never be overlooked, especially that late equaliser at Sheffield United towards the end of the year.
The Bluebirds have also notably borrowed a number of players off the Canaries - and in two important seasons.
Leon Barnett and Simon Lappin linked up with City from Norfolk on loan during the 2012/13 season. Lappin joined first, on loan in November 2012, before making the move permanent in January of 2013. Barnett made a big impact towards the end of the campaign. With promotion in our sights and injury struggles at the heart of our defence, Barnett joined on loan, initially for a month, but it was quickly extended until the end of the campaign. He made eight appearances for the Bluebirds, helping City secure promotion and the Championship title before returning to Norwich to help with their own injury concerns for the final few games.
In January 2018 Neil Warnock signed Yanic Wildschut for the remainder of the season to help in the wide areas. The rapid Dutchman made a quick impression, assisting the aforementioned Pilkington in our fourth goal against Sunderland. He struggled to break into the team, overall making eight appearances, mostly as cameos. Following a late defensive lapse at Derby County, Yanic never stepped out in City blue again, with Warnock's men overcoming Hull City and drawing with Reading in the final two games to seal promotion.
Josh Murphy, Cameron Jerome, Robert Earnshaw, Roger Gibbins and many more shone for both Cardiff City and Norwich City. Which is your favourite former Bluebird & Canary?
