With chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently saying publicly that every Peterborough United side aims for promotion in League One each season, it is only fair to anticipate the Club will be looking for a more positive campaign this time out, following last term's 18th placed finish. They did however pick up silverware in 2024/25, beating Birmingham City 2-0 in the Vertu Trophy final at Wembley.

The Club have had a real turnover of players this summer, with 14 departing and six joining thus far.

The Bluebirds during the 4-0 win over Peterborough United...

WHEN WE LAST MET

09/02/22 | Cardiff City 4-0 Peterborough United

The Bluebirds stormed to a four-goal victory the last time the Posh visited Cardiff City Stadium.

First half goals from Joe Ralls and Aden Flint were added to by Jordan Hugill and Uche Ikpeazu in the second half.

Earlier in the season, City came from two-behind at London Road to draw with Peterborough United. Aden Flint with two brilliant late goals on that occasion.

SHARED CONNECTIONS

Two players with real magic in their boots have played for both the Bluebirds and the Posh.

Lee Tomlin left non-league football in 2010 to join Peterborough United from Rushden & Diamonds. It was at London Road that Tommo's talents really shone through. After four years at the Club he left for Middlesbrough in the Championship, before joining AFC Bournemouth in the top flight. Tomlin linked up with the Bluebirds in 2017 from Severnside rivals Bristol City. His best season in Cardiff City blue came during the 2019/20 campaign, with the dynamic number 10 scoring and assisting for fun on the way to the play-offs.

Highlights from that year included his unbelievable assist for Glatzel's equaliser at Leeds United, a beautiful free-kick winner against West Bromwich Albion, a delightful through ball for Danny Ward's winner against his former Club at Ashton Gate and besting Wayne Rooney to score the winner against Derby County.

We can't mention the Bluebirds and the Posh though without mentioning Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

The winger had two spells at London Road (2011-11 on loan, 2012-15 permanently). His pace, power and eye for goal came to South Wales for the beginning of our now iconic 2017/18 campaign.

City fans will fondly remember NML for his explosive first month in blue, netting against Portsmouth, Aston Villa (twice), Sheffield United and Wolves in succession. During our following Premier League campaign, Mendez went on to score against Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion and twice at Old Trafford as City defeated Manchester United on the final day.

Other players to have featured for Peterborough United and Cardiff City include Frank Rankmore, Omar Bogle, Kerrea Gilbert, Ben Nugent, Joe Lewis and Joe Day.
