Plymouth Argyle came down from the Championship alongside the Bluebirds at the end of the 2024/25 season. They currently sit 12th in Sky Bet League One having played 32 games, earning 43 points. This is 26 points fewer than City at this stage.

Argyle have won their past two games; both on the road. Last time out they were 3-1 victors over Leyton Orient, following up a 4-0 victory away at Blackpool.

Their previous home match was a 4-1 defeat to Lincoln City at the start of the month. It's actually at home where their form has struggled the most. Only bottom side Port Vale have a poorer home record at this stage, with Argyle winning five times from 16 league matches at their own ground this term. They'll be hoping to turn this around and make a statement against the table topping Bluebirds this weekend.

Lorent Tolaj of Plymouth Argyle.

Top goal scorer for Argyle this term is Lorent Tolaj. The Bluebirds have faced off against the striker twice already this season as he was in both the Port Vale side we faced away from home in August, and also the Plymouth Argyle team when they visited CCS later the same month. Tolaj has 16 goals in all competitions this term.

Defensive midfielder Malachi Boateng is the only man to start all 32 league games for Argyle this term. The 23-year-old joined from Hearts during the summer and is enjoying a fine first season in Devon. Boateng has found the net from his holding midfield position three times this season too. Interestingly, Boateng's older brother Hiram, also a midfielder, had two loan spells with Argyle back in 2015/16.

Argyle made one permanent and two loan signings during the January transfer window. Winger Ronan Curtis joined from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee. The club also welcomed defender Wes Harding from Millwall, and midfielder Herbie Kane from Huddersfield Town on temporary deals, with the signing of Kane likely to cover for Bluebirds legend Joe Ralls (more on him shortly).

CLUB CONNECTION | JOE RALLS

Seeing Joe Ralls line-up in Plymouth Argyle green against the Bluebirds would've been a very strange sight for most set to be in the away end at Home Park on Saturday afternoon.

Sadly for Joe, his excellent form since arriving in Devon has been halted by an injury that will likely see the City legend miss the remainder of the current campaign, including this weekend's clash with his former side.

Every City fan knows about Joe Ralls and the impact he made on our football club. As was said when he departed in the summer of 2025, Joe may not have been born in our city, but he has earned the right to be called a ‘Cardiffian’.

Rallsy joined our Academy set-up at U16 level in 2010. The Aldershot-born midfielder made the Welsh capital his home for the next 15 years, making 409 appearances for City and scoring 34 times and captaining the team for three years.

We'd like to take this opportunity to wish Joe all the very best with his recovery from injury.
